Barcelonéses Say 'No' To Fast Train Tunnel

In the face of unprecedented opposition to the passage of Spain's first fast train to the French border through the Eixample Derecha, and the never finished Gaudí cathedral, the Barcelona city council has said that the plan will go through after all. Are the citizens of this supposed forward looking metropolis betraying their true provincial faces? Or are the rumors of inferior technology to be borne out? I would guess the former, but only time will tell.

The city can hardly afford another construction fiasco along the lines of January 2005's Carmel tunnel collapse, and the Partido Popular and CiU (Convergence and Union Party) have wasted no time in trying to make political hay out of the overheated emotions.
